OPERA ON ICE COMES TO THE BIG SCREEN
Figure skating and opera together for a magnificent performance from the Verona Arena coming to cinemas worldwide in high definition
Opera On Ice is the coming together of the marvels of opera music and the acrobatic maneuvers of figure skating all in one show. Recorded in the magical setting of the Verona Arena, the largest open-air opera theater in the world, Opera on Ice offers some of the most famous arias from twelve operas which have made music history: Don Giovanni – Aida – Carmen – Romeo and Juliet – Turandot – Tosca – La Traviata – Rigoletto – Nabucco - William Tell – L’Elisir d’Amore – Gianni Schicchi.
The International importance of the show is also due to the chorus, the orchestra and the Verona Arena singers as well as to the figure skating stars taking part, first and foremost Carolina Kostner and Olympic champion Stephane Lambiel. Italian skater, Carolina Kostner, has just won the European Championships and comes first in the world ranking.
“To have the starring role in this magnificent show is a great honor for me” said Carolina. “For me and all the other stars taking part in ”Opera on Ice” it’s a dream come true because, for once, our performances are removed from the sports environment and become pure entertainment in the unique setting of the Verona Arena. It is the most beautiful show I have ever taken part in”.
Opera On Ice comes from the idea of combining the beauty of one of the most artistic sports like ice-skating, with the great tradition of the opera in Verona which is famous all over the world. Besides Carolina Kostner and Stéphane Lambiel, other outstanding performers are Chinese skaters Qing Pang e Jian Tong (Vancouver 2010 vice Olympic champions) and the Russians Tatiana Totmianina and Maxim Marinin (Turin 2006 Olympic champions) .
For the first time in history the Verona Arena opens its doors to figure skating offering the first edition of a show that will revolutionize our approach to opera music, aiming to draw more young people to the opera. For the occasion the mecca of opera music will be converted into a large ice-rink with world ice-skating champions, top level international opera singers and the Verona Arena Orchestra and Chorus made up of over 200 performing members.
