General
A film classified as ‘General’ should be suitable for children of school going age.
PG:
Parental Guidance
A film with a ‘PG’ cert may be watched by unaccompanied children of any age.
12A:
Age 12 Audience or Over
Films classified suitable for those of 12 and upwards. They may also be seen by younger children provided a parent or adult guardian accompanies them.
15A:
Age 15 Audience or Over
Films classified are considered to be suitable for those of 15 and upwards.
16:
Age 16 Audience or Over
Films classified are considered to be suitable for persons of 16 or over.
18:
Age 18 Audience or Over
Films classified are 18 are for adults, persons who are eighteen and over should be free, subject to the law, to watch what they wish.

A film classified as ‘Universal’ is suitable for audiences aged four years and over.
PG:
Parental Guidance
A film with a ‘PG’ cert may be watched by unaccompanied children of any age.
12A:

Age 12 Audience or Over Only
Films classified suitable for those of 12 and upwards.
15:
Age 15 Audience or Over
Films classified are considered to be suitable for persons of 15 or over
18:
Age 18 Audience or Over Only
Films classified are suitable for No-one younger than 18. You must be ‘18’ or over to watch an 18 Cert film in a cinema.

The British Board of Film Classification is an independent, non-governmental body, which has classified cinema films since it was set up in 1912.
This independent body was set-up to bring a high degree of uniformity to the classification of film nationally.
